Along the Anclote River in Tarpon Springs, camped out in the oak hammocks and the dredges of Florida undergrowth, there dwell some of the greatest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Their stories and situations are immeasurable against the so-called troubles I've ever faced in my life. Stay strong, brothers and sisters.
lyrics
Well folks they call me Rooster, I was laid off in '09
Working on the docks from sunrise long into the night
Well I'm praying to the sweet Lord I can get back on my feet
But the way things are going I'm-a die out in the streets
And folks just walk by without a passing glance
They figure I'm just some old bum who
Went and squandered his chance
Yes and just the other day they hauled me off to 49th
For drinking out in public and carrying a knife
Well I'd skin a man alive before your lips could count to three
But I wouldn't hurt nobody who weren't coming after me
And the cops in this town, they won't even let me sleep a wink
So if you've got another quarter brother
Well I could sure use a drink
Yes there's nothing like malt liquor and a pack of cheap cigars
And my friends here singing with me passing 'round this old guitar
Well we camp out on the Anclote right behind those empty homes
Seems they almost built them 'fore that housing bubble blowed
There's no work to be found, though there’s many a-idle hands
A-livin' lives of vagrancy on some
Fat old rich man's land
And I don't know how much longer I can stand to stick 'round here
There’s an oil boom a-north but I might freeze to death I fear
Besides I'm getting much too old to work the way that I used to
I guess for now this little Gulf coast town will have to do
But they say that the mayor, he is trying to run us out
I'd like to put his ass on the streets and show him
What this life is all about
